The CRA Board Is Growing — Be Part of the Next Chapter
The California Resiliency Alliance (CRA) is seeking board members interested in taking a hands-on approach to help guide the organization’s long-term vision, strengthen our connections, and expand our impact.
The CRA is a 501C(3) non-profit operating at the nexus of the public, private, and nonprofit sectors supporting professionals with responsibilities in operational or organizational resilience. We facilitate cross-sector information sharing and partnerships to empower local and regional resilience.
Ideal board candidates will bring experience in one or more of the following areas:
Philanthropy & Fundraising
Navigating the philanthropic world, cultivating relationships, and opening new pathways for funding.
Developing sustainable, mission-aligned funding strategies rather than relying solely on grant cycles.
Framing resilience and technical work into inspiring, accessible language that resonates with diverse philanthropic values (equity, climate, community preparedness, etc.).
Outreach & Communications
Crafting messages and stories that make complex resilience issues clear, compelling, and relatable to diverse stakeholders.
Developing content strategies that enhance visibility and credibility of the organization on a variety of platforms including print, website, and LinkedIn.
Utilizing outward communications as a tool for advancing mission and building trust, not just for increasing visibility.
Strategic Thinking & Futures Orientation
Weaving together vision, resources, and opportunity to create actionable yet aspirational strategy that keeps tactical steps in perspective.
Familiarity with futures thinking and systems awareness to guide adaptive approaches that move beyond linear plans.
Able to define meaningful indicators of long-term impact and value, beyond short-term outputs.

Frequently Asked Questions
Serving on a nonprofit board is both rewarding and a commitment. Here are answers to some of the most common questions prospective members ask about expectations, time commitment, and the selection process.
What is the time commitment? On average, board members spend 6–8 hours per month on CRA activities. This includes reviewing materials, contributing to board initiatives, and participating in discussions. During months with quarterly board meetings, time commitment may increase by 1–2 hours.
Are board meetings in-person or virtual? All board meetings are currently held virtually.
When are board meetings held? Board meetings are held quarterly during normal business hours, with exact times scheduled based on member availability.
Do board members have to live in California? No. Board members can participate from anywhere. However, some connection to California—through residence, professional engagement, or organizational ties—is preferred.
Is being a board member a paid position? No. Serving on the CRA Board is a volunteer position.
What is the selection process? The board will at least monthly review submitted applications (resume and responses to questions) and invites selected candidates for discussion calls. Final candidates are voted on by the full board. Terms for new members begin on the first of the month following election, unless otherwise arranged. The board will continue reviewing submissions until all board positions are filled.
